**THIS IS AN IN PERSON WORKSHOP BEING HELD IN KAMLOOPS**
BCAPOP Presents:
Building Bridges Through Understanding the Village
facilitated by: Kathi Hemphill Camilleri - Master of Arts in Leadership, Cultural Safety Consultant and Facilitator of Village Workshop©️ Series
Thursday July 14, 2022
8:30am - 4:30pm PT | In person (Kamloops)
The Sandman Hotel, 225 Lorne Street, Kamloops BC, V2C 1W2
About the workshop:
During this experiential workshop we will explore our personal role in supporting the revival of the values that worked so beautifully in Indigenous villages for thousands of years. We will also explore in‐depth the affects of Residential Schools and Canada’s Policy of Assimilation. This workshop is geared to solutions rather than recrimination and is a great forum in which to ask questions.
Participants who participate in these often emotion provoking workshop experiences comment that while they understood a bit about the issue on a cognitive level, after participation in Building Bridges Through Understanding the Village they understand on a deep emotional level as well. The workshop is done from a non-blame and non shame perspective and invites all participants to become a part of the healing that IS already happening. Kathi’s work has been inspired by Jann Derrick’s teachings of ‘The Circle and The Box’ and by many Elders' teachings.
Learning outcomes:
- Foundational learning for moving into reconciliation in response to the TRC Calls to Action and The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
- A cognitive and emotional understanding of traditional First Nations values.
- A deep and emotional insight into the depth and intergenerational effects of Colonization
This workshop is limited to 45 participants.
About the facilitator:
Kathi Camilleri (Spotted Doe) is of Metis/Cree Ancestry. She holds a Master's Degree in Leadership Studies and Certificates in CBT and DBT. She facilitates strategic planning sessions, keynotes and experiential Village©️ workshops regarding Canada's Policy of Assimilation and Colonization with all levels of government, students and educators, and frontline workers in communities across Canada. Kathi and her husband Chris have a blended family with six boys and one (brave, tough) girl.
In 2012 Kathi’s work was nominated for the Premiers Award for Excellence in Leadership, the B.C. Reconciliation Award and for an Excellence in Diversity Award from the provincial Nesika Foundation. Kathi uses humour, kindness and wisdom to hold the space safely for us while we change how we see the world and how we forever interact with those who have Aboriginal Heritage. It is easy to learn because of her gentle ways, and her respect for all people.” ~workshop participant.
