Description
Grounding Exercise Tool Card
With the help of this tool card, perinatal professionals and helping peers role model the efficacy of using a grounding exercise in person with a participant, client, or patient and then they take it home with them to practice. Having the tool card placed in highly visible location at home acts as a physical reminder to remember to practice the coping strategy whenever they feel they could use some grounding. A physical card in a visible location is more likely to be utilized by a perinatal person than an app on a device that is “put out of sight, out of mind;” hence why BCAPOP makes and sells printed versions.
Best times in practice to role model and utilize a grounding exercise while supporting a perinatal person:
-after an intake that asks sensitive information
-after a client, patient or participant discloses emotional information
-after a crisis, emotional appointment or draining session
-any time that the perinatal person could use support to "bring them back" into the room and the moment
With practice, this grounding exercise becomes second nature and allows the perinatal person to self-soothe and cope in a healthy way in their day-to-day life. This adopted skill increases the capacity of the people we are supporting and isn't that the main purpose of our work?
The "Grounding Exercise" cards are printed in colour (double-sided) on 4.25" x 5.5" card stock.
